Laverne Cox is an LGBT activist and actor from the United States. She rose to popularity as Sophia Burset on the Netflix series “Orange Is the New Black,” being the first openly transgender person to be nominated for an Emmy Award in the acting category, and the first since composer Angela Morley in 1990.
